Two Vertebrate books shortlisted for the Boardman Tasker Prize for Mountain Literature
- Wednesday 24 August 2016
The Boardman Tasker Prize, which was established in 1983, commemorates the lives of Peter Boardman and Joe Tasker – outstanding mountaineers and accomplished authors – who disappeared together high on Everest in 1982. It is given to the author or co-authors of an original work that has made an outstanding contribution to mountain literature.
The Bond by Simon McCartney and Wild Country by Mark Vallance reveal the stories behind some of the most legendary characters in the climbing world. This is the seventh year that a Vertebrate title has made the Boardman Tasker shortlist, with two of our books having previously won the prize: Ron Fawcett’s Rock Athlete in 2010 and Andy Kirkpatrick’s Cold Wars in 2012. The other titles shortlisted for the 2016 prize are Alone on the Wall by Alex Honnold with David Roberts (Pan Macmillan), Eruption by Steve Olson (W.W. Norton & Co.), and The Maverick Mountaineer by Robert Wainwright (Allen and Unwin).
This year’s winner will be announced during a special ceremony at the Kendal Mountain Festival, which takes place on 17–20 November.
