Three Vertebrate titles shortlisted for the Boardman Tasker Award 2017
- Friday 25 August 2017
Congratulations go to Bernadette McDonald, Ed Douglas and Rob Collister whose books have been included on the 2017 Boardman Tasker Award shortlist.
Established in 1983, the Boardman Tasker Award commemorates the lives of Peter Boardman and Joe Tasker – outstanding mountaineers and accomplished authors – who disappeared together high on Everest in 1982. It is presented annually to the author or co-authors of an original work that has made an outstanding contribution to mountain literature.
The three shortlisted books – which make up half of this year’s shortlist – are Ed Douglas’s The Magician’s Glass, a collection of eight climbing essays on climbing life and culture; Art of Freedom, a profile of one of the climbing world’s most respected figures, Voytek Kurtyka; and Days to Remember, a collection of tales from well-known mountain guide Rob Collister. The other three shortlisted titles are The Push by Tommy Caldwell (Michael Joseph, Penguin Random House), Night Naked by Erhard Loretan and Jean Ammann (Mountaineers Books) and Among the Summer Snows by Christopher Nicholson (September Publishing).
This is the eighth year Vertebrate titles have made the Boardman Tasker Award shortlist, with three of our books having previously won the prize: Ron Fawcett’s Rock Athlete in 2010, Andy Kirkpatrick’s Cold Wars in 2012, and, last year, The Bond by Simon McCartney.
The winner will be announced at the Boardman Tasker Award Presentation on Friday 17 November 2017 at the Kendal Mountain Festival.
Signed, special-edition copies of The Magician's Glass are still available. Click HERE for more information.
