There is no Map in Hell shortlisted for the Lakeland Book of the Year awards

There is no Map in Hell, fell runner Steve Birkinshaw’s book about his 2014 record-breaking run over all 214 Wainwright fells, has been shortlisted for the 2017 Lakeland Book of the Year awards.

This is the thirty-third year of the Lakeland Book of the Year awards, and Birkinshaw’s book is one of fifteen on this year’s shortlist, from a bumper total of sixty-eight entries. The winners will be announced at the awards luncheon at the Armathwaite Hotel, Bassenthwaite, on 11 July.

There is no Map in Hell recounts Birkinshaw’s preparation, training and mile-by-mile experience of running the Wainwrights, including the extraordinary and sometimes hellish demands he made of his mind and body, and the physiological aftermath of his feat.

Steve commented, ‘I am delighted that my book has been shortlisted for the Lakeland Book of the Year award. It will be an honour to be amongst such famous and prestigious authors at the awards presentation. I am also thrilled that the expert judges seem to really like my story.’

The Lakeland Book of the Year awards encourage and celebrate writing and publishing in Cumbria, and hope to enhance the longstanding literary heritage of the county. The awards enrich the cultural profile of Cumbria and have raised thousands of pounds in funding for worthy charities with Cumbrian connections.
