Climbing Taxman Battles Cancer and Continues Climbing

Vertebrate Publishing will this autumn publish No Easy Way, the third volume of memoirs by award-winning British mountaineer and author Mick Fowler.
Following on from Vertical Pleasure and On Thin Ice, published by Vertebrate imprint Baton Wicks, No Easy Way sees Fowler pioneering a lightweight approach on remote mountains in the greater ranges, while managing a series of challenges including the art of securing a climbing permit in Tibet, a full-time job in the tax office and even a cancer diagnosis.
Mountaineer and author Sir Chris Bonington said of the book, ‘Mick Fowler writes and climbs in a truly inspirational manner. Despite a full-time job and raising a family he has been one of Britain’s leading mountaineers for over thirty-five years. He is a true master of the work-life balance. And whether writing about working for the tax office, epic walks with the dog, presiding over the Alpine Club or climbing award-winning Himalayan climbs, his irrepressible optimism and sense of humour shine through. It’s a great read.’
A former president of the Alpine Club, Fowler has earned himself three prestigious Piolets d’Or awards – the Oscars of the mountaineering world – as well as the title of ‘Mountaineer’s Mountaineer’ in a poll in The Observer.
No Easy Way will be published on 4 October. Hardback copies are now available to pre-order from Vertebrate Publishing for £24.
