The forest of Fontainebleau is one of the major bouldering spots of the world.

Thousands upon thousands of sandstone boulders lie scattered over an area of some 1,200 square kilometres of forest, wonderfully-shaped boulders of superb quality rock in a wilderness of pine, beech and oak trees. The climbing style is addictive, a subtle mixture of body positioning, footwork and power that is as demanding mentally as it is physically. There are problems at every grade imaginable, from the easiest of circuits to world class testpieces.

Many of these problems are grouped into the circuits for which Font is famous. Marked with coloured dots and arrows, they offer the climber a unique way in which to explore each climbing area. Fontainebleau Climbs is the perfect way to discover and enjoy these circuits.

With descriptions of the areas and the circuits and grades found in each, this easy-to-use guide is full of useful and practical advice, tips on where to go after rain or in hot weather, on accommodation and on child-friendly areas.

Easy to read, full-colour maps show the starting point, layout and key boulders for each circuit. There are over 100 maps, just under 100 circuits and more than 3,000 routes, together with stories and anecdotes on the famed history of Fontainebleau climbing. Everything you need for a great trip!

Jacky Godoffe has been climbing in Fontainebleau for over 30 years. A professional climber with an international reputation, he is a sports teacher and technical advisor to France's national mountaineering and climbing federation.

Jo and Françoise Montchaussé were born and live in the heart of the Fontainebleau forest. It was here that they first discovered climbing and have since made it their way of life. It remains a source of inspiration for both of them, for their photography and for their products they design specially for bouldering.

This is the most popular circuit guidebook there is to Font, it displays the circuits to all the popular areas and commonly visited areas and, as such, it is ideal for if you just wish to do circuits. It also contains a few popular off-circuit problems. – Rock & Run

The orientation map looks like a proper map, with different scale roads in different colours and thicknesses (the old map had everything in gigantic grey). There are coloured circles next to each area title indicating the number and range of circuits, the colours obviously matching the colour  of the circuits. This alone is something that I’ve not seen before in a guide, at least not done so concisely. It’s immediately clear for example, that Apremont has the largest number of circuits anywhere in the forest. – Matt Heason, Sheffield Adventure Film Festival
