Day Walks in the Peak District – 20 classic circular routes is the full second edition of Vertebrate Publishing's original guide to hill walking in the Peak District National Park.

The original Day Walks in the Peak District proved to be a popular guide amongst walkers. Updates to this new edition include Ordnance Survey 1:25,000 scale maps, all new photography, and updates to routes to reflect recent changes (such as the opening of the Monsal Trail through Chee Dale).

This book features 20 circular walks, between 8.25 and 12 miles (13 and 19.5 kilometres) in length, suitable for hill walkers of all abilities. The routes are split into three areas – The High Moors, Hills Tors & Edges and Limestone Country – and feature walks around some of the most wild and beautiful places in the National Park, including; Alport Castles, Back Tor & Derwent Edge, the Kinder Edges, Chatsworth, Stanage Moor, The Roaches, Chee Dale, Lathkill Dale, Chrome Hill, Cressbrook Dale, Wolfscote Dale and Dove Dale.

Researched and written by local hill walkers, each route features clear and easy to use Ordnance Survey maps, easy-to-follow directions, details of distance, navigation information, refreshment stops and local knowledge. The book is illustrated with stunning location photography, and also features a detailed Appendix.

Norman Taylor has been a climber and fell walker since his teens. Since becoming a father with two children in the 1980s he began to plan walks to suit a young family. This resulted in his first publication, Family Walks in the White Peak. This spawned a nationwide series for Scarthin Books of Cromford, and Norman himself wrote a further five Family Walks guides. Since leaving the teaching profession and becoming manager of Foothills – the Outdoor Specialists in Sheffield – some years ago, he has been leading weekly, guided walks throughout the Peak District. The two Peak District Day Walks guidebooks, published by Vertebrate Publishing, are his latest project and are based on an intimate knowledge of the National Park.

To help him in the venture, Norman enlisted friend and walking companion Barry Pope. A keen fell walker since his teens, Barry for many years roamed, explored and photographed the landscape of the Peak District National Park. In the process, he acquired an enviable knowledge of the natural history and archaeology of the area.

'This attractive and useful book is generously illustrated with lovely colour photos throughout, all new for the new edition.'

'Researched and written by local hill walkers.'

'I have completed about half of the walks so far, and have enjoyed every one for different reasons. They are mostly fairly demanding, unless you are young and very fit, and that suits me as a pensioner trying to stay healthy. A good variety with walks in the High Moors, Hills Tors and Edges, and Limestone Country. The book will fit in your pocket but contains excellent maps.'
