What's new this month? July 2018

Friday, 6 July 2018

Looking to plan in some full-value days out over the summer holidays? We have two new guidebooks now available to pre-order at 20% off which are packed with recommendations.

Offering twenty routes suitable for all abilities, Day Walks on the High Weald showcases this Outstanding Area of Natural Beauty and reveals the region’s rich medieval heritage. For something more fast paced, Brecon Beacons Trail Running is a guide to the wide variety of off-road runs on offer among the beautiful views and mountainous scenery of South Wales. We'll be publishing these guides in August but if you can’t wait that long to make the most of the sun, there are plenty of tempting alternatives among our repository of guidebook goodness.

Here's what Vertebrate's Publishing Manager thinks about these two new guides ...

Trail Running in the Brecon Beacons

Our fourth regional trail running guidebook covers one of the most beautiful areas in the British Isles, the Brecon Beacons. I’d really only spent a bit of time down there in the past, but the opportunity to shoot the photography for this guide gave me the opportunity to conduct a whistle-stop tour of the national park. Blessed with good weather (well, apart from the ten-metre visibility on top of Pen y Fan!) me and a bunch of dashing, willing and able models spent three big days touring the entire area. After many miles and many photographs, it became pretty clear why this must be a fantastic place to go trail and fell running. Breathtaking.

Day Walks on the High Weald

I’ve worked with Deirdre Huston for over ten years now and she’s always a pleasure to work with. You know her books are going to be good and so I was very much looking forward to Day Walks on the High Weald coming in. It’s an area I don’t know so well, and so over the course of putting the book together with Deirdre I was able to learn a great deal from her text – a good sign that our readers will do too. Whether you’re familiar with our Days Walks books or not, you’ll find this book easy to use and I’m sure it will inspire your adventures in this historic Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
