Doug Scott

Doug Scott CBE and fellow icon of mountaineering, Chris Bonington, made the first ascent of the Ogre (7,285 metres) in the Karakoram in July 1977. Their climb extended the boundaries of what had been achieved before at that altitude. But it was the subsequent descent from the summit in the dark, a catalogue of disasters that would have defeated most people, which has since entered mountaineering folklore.

Doug will be telling a thrilling story of hard climbing, team work and survival against all odds, in his famously laconic and humorous style. The talk has been refreshed with the aid of recently discovered photographs and material from the diaries of other team members - Chris Bonington, Nick Estcourt and Clive Rowland - plus cine film and audio tapes recently discovered in an attic and made by the late Mo Anthoine on the expedition.

Chris Bonington

The great climber charts not only his many triumphs in the climbing world – from the Alps to the Eiger, and the Himalaya – but also the struggles he has faced in his life bringing up a family and maintaining a successful and loving marriage over the decades of travelling the world to conquer mountains. An evening with a legend.

Simon Yates

One of the most accomplished exploratory mountaineers of all time, Simon Yates is best known for his role in the harrowing expedition to the Andes documented in Joe Simpson's bestseller Touching The Void.

Following that experience in Peru, Simon has been increasingly drawn to places where few others have trod. This illustrated lecture features spectacular images and film of the most remote and rarely explored mountain ranges of the world from the Arctic to the Antarctic and Alaska to Central Asia - there is hardly a significant range that Simon has not visited.

Bob Comlay

Bob was one of a handful of crew members who chose to accompany H. W. ‘Bill’ Tilman – one of the last great explorers of the twentieth century – on two sailing voyages to Greenland in the early 1970s, giving him a unique insight into Tilman’s expeditions and self-effacing character. His talks are illustrated with over 100 photographs from his private collection and a number of private letters from his friendship with Tilman.
