Heddon Valley and Lynton – North Devon and Exmoor. Photo: Jen and Sim Benson.

We’re starting the year as we mean to go on with a work-off-that-Christmas-turkey inspired choice for our January Book of the Month, Day Walks in Devon. Covering some of the most varied and beautiful terrain of any UK county, the routes in this guide are split into five geographical areas: North Devon and Exmoor, Torridge and West Devon, Mid and East Devon, Darmoor and South Devon and the South Hams.

Available to download as a free PDF below, the route we’ve selected is Heddon Valley and Lynton, which ‘starts in the heart of the Valley of Rocks, just below the fortress of Castle Rock with its fine views across the Bristol Channel to Wales. Taking to the South West Coast Path, [the] walk [meanders] through dramatic cliffedged moorland and along narrow, winding trails high above the waves.’

Plus, to help inspire your northern adventures, with every copy of Day Walks in Devon bought this month, we're giving away a copy of Peak Summit: Eight classic walks

Happy, walking, exploring and all the bits in between!
