Award-winning independent publisher Vertebrate Publishing has signed a deal with renowned mountaineer, adventurer, lecturer and author Simon Yates to publish his third book, provisionally entitled The Wild Within.

The Wild Within will build on the success of Simon’s first two books, the first of which, Against the Wall, was runner up in the prestigious Boardman Tasker Prize for Mountain Literature in 1997.

Speaking about The Wild Within, Simon said: “In this book I intend to look at the importance and meaning of the world’s remaining wildernesses in our consumer and communication driven era. I plan to focus on a very contemporary theme
of how the proliferation and ease of modern telecommunications has affected the experience of climbing in remote
mountain wilderness.”

Commenting on the signing, Vertebrate’s Publishing Manager John Coefield said: “We’re delighted to add an author of such quality and renown as Simon to our ever-expanding list of mountaineering and climbing literature. We think his concept is terrific and will make for an incredible read.”

The Wild Within will be published in 2011.
