The thick snows and hard frosts of our winter publishing schedule are melting, and the lovely shoots of our spring list are warming a glow of summer across the meadow of our studio.

Panic not; we haven’t resorted to poetry anthologies and volumes of romantic prose just yet. But while the winter list was all hardcore Himalayan heroics, exploring mountains on the very edge of the world and epic Arctic adventures under a midnight sun, we are now working away in the spring sunshine on a range of new titles. Our next batch of books will embrace the natural world, celebrate climbing for what it can do for an individual and take walkers and mountain bikers to the hidden, secret corners of our wild landscapes.

A brand new edition of Brown Hares in the Derbyshire Dales, a delightful, beautiful and honest book by local author and photographer Christine Gregory will be available in a couple of months. Originally published in 2010, we thought it far too important a book to go out of print.

Back by popular demand is Norman Taylor and Barry Pope’s original Day Walks in the Peak District. We’ve spent the winter and spring photographing each walk, enjoying once again Norman’s intimate knowledge of the Peak, including: the Barrow and Grinah Stones, Alport Castles, Lathkill Dale, Cressbrook Dale, Shining Tor, Chrome Hill, The Roaches, Wolfscote Dale and more – an explorer’s treasure trove of a guidebook.

Scotland’s a big place, and surely worthy of a second, completely new, barely-yet-have-we-scratched-the-surface mountain bike guide. Phil McKane has once again come up with the goods, a lifetime of riding still awaits us all north of the border. Thanks to Phil, and of course Andy McCandlish for such inspirational photography.

Two very special projects are due out at the end of the summer: we are honoured to be publishing the 30 year anniversary Boardman Tasker commemorative calendar. With complete access to the respective families' archives and the enormous Chris Bonington collection we are currently working through iconic images from that golden, yet so tragic, period of British Himalayan adventure. Everest, Dunagiri, Changabang and K2 all feature in this strictly limited edition project.

Of course it is no secret that our big book for the autumn will be Nick Bullock’s Echoes, a project that Nick has been working on for a number of years. As a commentary on modern hard rock climbing and Alpine mountaineering it is not to be missed, but as an exploration into what climbing can really mean to one person it is unlike any mountain book you will have ever read.

Of course there are a few other projects, just there under the last of the winter snows, quietly waiting for a bit of time in the studio, for the proof readers and editors, the photographers and illustrators, the designers and printers to give them their moment to bloom. It’s a great job this, producing books that we love, working with people we respect on projects hopefully you’ll appreciate.
